Silves Golf
Silves Golf resort offers a rural setting but is just a stones throw from the historic town of Silves.
Silves is a charming town steeped in history everywhere you look with lots of reminders of it’s affluent and bold past as a Moorish capital. Silves is also a pretty town littered with orange and lemon trees sitting on the banks of the Rio Arade.
The importance of Silves lies in the fact that it was the main access to the inland areas of the Algarve because of its river location, although the river is now too silted up for large vessels to use. The most prominent monument is Castelo de Silves, which is now the best preserved castle in the Algarve. The castle and the Cathedral beside it are the first buildings you see as you approach Silves, as they sit on the hilltop above the town.
Silves Golf course has been designed to test the golfers quality in hitting a well directed ball with the correct club. This point is really emphasised when you stand at the first tee as you are faced with 2 water hazards flanking the fairway.
Silves golf course has been described as a course designed for attacking play with the bunkers placed to cause possible problems to the big hitters. Most holes offer stunning mountain and valley views overlooking palm trees and olive groves. Silves golf course has no less than six par-3 holes with lengths of between 136 and 201 metres and 4 par-5′s of 461 metres upwards. Silves golf course also offers a great variety of 2 shot holes ranging from the short arrow straight opening hole to the long spectacular curving 13th hole that blends perfectly into the surroundings.
